Question:
Does any one dump(diarrhea)on pretty much anything?
I posted this question before and people though i was talking about vomiting. I have been to the Dr about my problem and he is stumped. First thing in the morning when I eat, no matter what it is, wheather it a few bits of an egg or just a sip of water, im running to the bathroom(diarrhea). After i dump, I can eat pretty much anything throughout the day without any problems. I take my time eating and by the fisr 3 bits I feel my guts churning. Any thoughts. — mandy O. Mandy, I'm not sure that what you are experiencing is dumping. I too deal
with loose stool first thing in the morning. Once I get up and get going,
I start with some protein drink.. have my loose BM and then try something
solid. Usually by the time I'm dressed and ready to leave the house I'm
done with my bathroom routine..meaning no more loose stool. Granted I had
a BPD and don't dump at all.. but I wanted to share my experiences with
you. Sounds like this is your systems way of 'waking up' after a sleep.
Just my two bits. Good luck! ~Peace

How far post-op are you? Maybe you're not eating enough fiber? I'm not
really sure what to tell you. But you're probably not dumping like the
previous poster said. That usually occurs with sugar and high-fat foods.
And symptoms vary but, you get a stomach ache, sweaty, just feel horrible
all around. You don't necessarily go to the bathroom b/c of it. I would
check with your doctor. But i do know that it took me a few months to
become regular and not have diarhhea due to the liquid diet or anasthesia,
etc. Goodluck to you

I answered before and I still say this is not dumping. I've had diarrhea
to some degree or another for several months. I asked my surgeon also, and
he couldn't really give me anexplanation. I think it may have something to
do with the malabsorption of food that we eat. I know that it has gotten
better for me as time goes on. <p>According to the dietician who
taught the pre-op classes I was required to take, "Dumping is caused
by simple sugars being 'dumped' into the small intestine very quickly and
not having a chance to be absorbed. This causes water to be pulled into
the intestines causing cramping, sudden watgery diarrhea and sometimes a
dizzy, shaky, sweaty reaction (hypoglycemia). It is not caused by starches
or fat."

Mandy, diarreha is not dumping. I know some people use dump as slang for
going to the bathroom to have a B.M. but that is not what the weight loss
community knows and the docs call dumping. True dumping is cold, clammy
nausea, maybe some vomiting and maybe some heart palpations. I saw your
question the other day and Gar answered you correctly that time. We are
just trying to explain to you what dumping really is. It is not taking a
"dump" SORRY for being so blunt. Are you eating fatty foods that
are causing you to have diarreha or milk products. Or eating too much?
Sorry I cannot be of more help.

I have the runs fairly often in the morning. I just find it a bit annoying,
but nothing to worry about. It doesn't matter what I eat either, and with
me it happens every couple of days. I wonder sometimes if it something I
ate the night before. But I do agree, that is not dumping. I do dump
occassionally and it is the sweaty, anxious feeling with the craps (I don't
vomit for some reason). Anyhow, unless it is causing a social problem for
you, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.

My surgeon told me that dairrhea was caused by too much liquid while
eating. this maqy explain why those having protein drinks in am have a
problem. I drink water with my meals...I know..I know! Fat and sugar seem
to cause this too!. Get a prescription from your doc for lomotil, but
watch out for side effects (numbness, among others) and dont overdose. Hope
this helps.

I personally do no think this is dumping. Sounds like an overreactionary
bowel to me. I had this problem early on. The minute I drank or ate
anything the pouch, small bowel and colon started going nuts. It
eventually settled down. My system was just in reaction mode. I don't
have any good answers here. My surgeon had me use yogurt and a little bit
of toast (which technically we could not have at that point yet), which
helped. If you can have yogurt, maybe by having some before bed would
help. Discuss with the surgeon and see if it's okay to try. It might be
that you just need to get the flora etc. in your bowel balanced again.

Mandy,
Although I don't get the diarrhea first thing in the morning, I do find
that if I try to eat before I drink something first thing in the morning I
feel sick for quite awhile. If I have a drink of crystal light, wait about
an hour then eat I am fine. The other thing I have noticed is that if I eat
too many carbs, sugar or fat one day, I do have diarrhea the next morning
for awhile until my system clears out. As long as I eat healthy I am fine
but if not I do pay for it the next day.
