Question:
How long is the recovery and I need a surgeon in Houston.
I basically want to know how long you have to stay home to recover, and be able to go back to work. Also if anyone can recommend a doctor in Houston, TX.. I'd really appreciate it.. — Ivonne D. (posted on April 10, 2003)

Recovery is usually 6 weeks with open but it actually depends on you and
how well you follow your Dr orders. Lap RNY is usually a bit sooner. The
lap band I have no idea..to find a surgeon go to the find a doc link at the
top of the page....I looked an dfound 6 just on 1/2 the page. Here are the
ones I jotted down ALL were listed in Houston: Hadar Spivak..Steven
Glorsky..Younan Nowzaradan..John Sweeny, Ramesh K Srungaram, Robert,
Davis....check out the link above and read more about them. And there are
others I'm sure...God bless. Jamie

I was told that I will be out of work (desk job) for 4 weeks. I have read
some here that go right back to work real quick. Personally I pay for
Short term disability so I am taking advantage of it.

I had Open RNY 4 weeks ago and have been back to work for nearly a week,
out for 3 1/2 weeks. Length of recovery depends on many factors. Plan on
6 weeks. You know you best. Are you generally fit and healthy - not prone
to get sick, heal quick, etc.? All these things will contribute to your
recovery time. If you have the time, take it. I had only 3 1/2 weeks of
time coming, so it's a good thing my recovery has been smooth and quick.
Many blessings, Robin

I used Dr. Carlos Ferrari with Neweigh. His web site says he has performed
over 1300 wls and assisted in over 1700 more. They have an aftercare
program also. I had lap rny on Tuesday and was back at work on the
following Monday. (work from home, but still put in 6-8 hr days that first
week.) The key there was not having to be dressed in 'work clothes'.
