Question:
Sugar-free jelly or Simply Fruit?
I was just at the store and saw that Smuckers has both a sugar-free jelly made with Nutrasweet and a Simply Fruit that is 100% fruit. The ingredients in the Simply Fruit said "fruit syrup" and the sugars were 8, but wouldn't most of that be natural? Which one should I choose? I thought I could mix a little in with my cream of wheat. — Sarahlicious (posted on April 2, 2003)

In my opinion, the smuckers was gross. I tried to do several different
things with it and all times, I ended up throwing the concoction I made out
too. Just a very funny taste and aftertaste. I would think the Simply Fruit
would taste much better.

I tried the sugar free, and I ended up tossing it. It was nasty! I eat the
simply fruit almost everyday. It's really good!

Hi, I work for smuckers, Simply Fruit"fruit syurp" is the fruit
syurp boilded down then added back into the product to give it a sweeter
taste. The sugar is all natural. The tatse is more intense than the light
sugar free...

I tried several types of sugar free jelly and they tasted great, but I
dumped on even a very small amount. I'd buy whatever is least expensive
first and see if you dump. If not, you can look for something that tastes
good.

I am a huge fan of Polaner All Fruit, which I assume would be the same as
Simply Fruit. I just know it's yummy. I like the Seedless Raspberry flavor.
I use it on pancakes (or shall I say my one small pancake I have maybe once
a month). I also use it in my regular (plain) instant oatmeal to make fruit
& cream oatmeal. I mix a tablespoon of the Polaner in after I cook the
oatmeal & water in the microwave. I also add some milk and a packet of
Splenda. Yummy stuff! :) - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -120lbs.

Last year I read a recommendation for Jok n Al jam or something like that
on a low carb site. I bought it and made Atkins pancakes and this was just
the best stuff to put on it.

I have tried the Smuckers simply fruit cherry flavor and it is pretty good.
But I am a big Polaner's fan--since before surgery! I haven't ever tried a
flavor I didn't like. Their seedless black raspberry and seedless
blackberry flavors are awesome! I usually use them to make 1/2 peanut
butter and jelly sandwich. If I use too much I dump (8g sugar is not enough
to make me dump--I am a "combination dumper." milk is fine,
cereal is fine, milk + cereal = misery) so I try to only use a teaspoon or
so. But it is very sweet and has lots of flavor.
I haven't tried
the nutrasweet one because I don't like aspertame but if it doesn't bother
you it should be OK. My father-in-law eats that kind and he seems to like
it.
One note about putting it in cream of wheat/oatmeal. I have
done that with some jellies and they seem to be bitter to me in that
combination. It may be just me. I love cream of wheat made with milk with
just butter and splenda and a little cinnamon. If you try sugar-free syrup
just know that it SMELLS like the real thing but it doesn't taste sweet to
me. I have to mix it with a teaspoon of the real mccoy for it to be
tolerable.
