Question:
I'm losing my hair daily! I'm 13 months Post-op.
What do I do to stop it before I go bald!! If protein is needed, what KIND of protein, because I don't want to gain weight. What vitamins do I need to be taking? — Bambi M. (posted on March 31, 2003)

If you have never supplemented with protein, that might be the problem.
Although this is a long debate so I can only speak for myself. I do a
minimum of 90 grams of predigested blended whey protein (powdered mixed
with water -- low carbs, no sugar) a day. I'm almost 2 years out and
never had any hair loss (not even during the 3-6 month supposed hair loss
period. Anyway, go to www.vitalady.com and order some samples at $2/per.
Can't hurt, certainly can help. Good luck and God Bless!

In addition to what Kimberley said about protein, what other vitamins are
you taking?

Have you checked your labs? Thirteen months out seems kind of late to be
losing just from surgical shock (in fact, I'd guess there's a deficiency
issue for sure at this point), but you should check your labs to find out
what's up. If you haven't done so, have your doc check your albumin,
protein, iron, calcium, CBC, B-12, thyroid, etc. to see what's up with you.
If it's protein, Kimberly's advice is good -- try some protein supplement
samples from vitalady.com, or wlssuccess.com, or from somewhere, 'til you
find one you like. Also, do you track what you eat? It might be worth
keeping track for a week or two, so you can find out just how many grams of
protein (and other stuff) you're eating at this point. Fitday.com is a
good place to track that, for free.
