Question:
How long does it take for swelling to go down after a panni?
I am post open RNY 3/27/02..I have lost 150lbs. I just had a panni done on 3/19/03 and have a lot of swelling of my hips, belly, and vaginal area. I was wearing size 4's before the panni and now I am lucky if I can get into 8's because of all the swelling...How long before all this swelling will go down and I can get back into 4's again? I have also noticed that I gained weight from the surgery(thought I would loose more due to all the skin removal). Is this weight all fluid build up from the surgery? Thanks for any and all help.. — Debbie S. (posted on March 28, 2003)

I had my tt 3/7/03. Before surgery I was a size 8. Just after surgery I
couldn't even button a pair of 12 jeans. But, I just got back into my 8's a
couple days ago... so don't panic! :) Although they removed 3 1/2 pounds of
skin, my weight is the same too. My surgeon tells me there could be
swelling for up to 6 weeks.

I had my TT in June, and it took several weeks for my swelling to go down.
Earlier this week I swelled up all over again...I discovered the
culprit...a snack of high sodium sweet baby gherkins...caused major fluid
retention. My surgeon told me that swelling can occur up to a year later
when ALL of the tissue has healed...not just the tissue that you see.
