Question:
Questions for Nuva-Ring users Post-Op...
Hi, I am 8mos post-op, and been using the Birth Control Patch the last 2 months. I never noticed, but the last 2 months I really have only lost like 5 pounds. I heard the Patch can do this. I was wondering the side-effects of Nuva-Ring and if weight-loss slowed down when using it. Also if most insurances cover it? I have Humana HMO. Thanks alot! 8mos post-op -100pounds at 160 — Sunny4x4chick (posted on March 28, 2003)

I was on the ring for 2 months and hated it. I had weird side effects from
it and my you know where was very sore and tender for the entire time I had
it in. My Gyno switched me to the patch and although it makes my weight
loss slow down (so did the ring), It hasn't stopped and I have had no side
effects whatsoever. My insurance covered both.

I am 11 months post-op and have been on the ring for 2 months. My loss has
slowed but nothing too alarming. I haven't tried the patch. My insurance
doesn't cover this so I have to pay. Other than a few hormonal surges the
Ring has done well for me.

The ring caused me serious vaginal irritation, major depression, and I
wanted to eat CONSTANTLY. It was only in for five days, and all my
problems cleared up the day after I took it out. I had never tried
hormonal birth control, and I suspect I would have all the same side
effects - except for the irritation, of course.
My OB/GYN told me that the patch would not be as effective for me, as I was
over 200#.
