I have a question about something I read on this site. It was mentioned that mesh was used in the surgery. What was the "mesh" used for? I was wondering if it was to reinforce the pouch and prevent it from stretching. I am about 6 years post-op and have gained about 30 lbs. back. I suspect a big part of the problem is that the pouch stretched because I can eat quite a bit more than I used to. I had an open VBG/GB.    — Jennifer F. (posted on February 6, 2003)

I thought mesh was used in hernia repairs. I've heard that some surgeries involve putting a little band around the pouch (as opposed to the entire stomach, like with VBG), but I didn't think it was mesh . . . .
