Question:
2 WEEKS OUT LITTLE WEIGHT LOSS
I know I should never compare my weight loss with others but it's very hard not to. I'm almost 2 weeks out and have only lost maybe 3 pounds. I hear of people losing 20lbs. in their first 2 weeks. I feel like this may not work for me. — Kelly* P. (posted on January 31, 2003)

You may still be retaining water weight from the fluids given to you by IV
during surgery. Also are you getting in enough fluids? Remember a lot of
the fat escapes your body through urine. If your not peeing the fat has no
place to go.

I came home from the hospital with an extra 15 lbs of fluid, and it took
about 1 1/2 weeks to get rid of that, so I guess it was 3-4 weeks before
the real weight loss started. Your body does have to adjust to taking a
smaller amount of food. It will start to come off soon. I wound up being
16 lbs down from my pre op weight on my first visit back to the surgeon in
a little over 3 weeks. I think everyone worries that something is wrong
and the surgery won't work for them. Some time ago, I did a low carb diet,
and on one site, this was referred to as "whoosing" - you don't
lose much then, whoosh, you drop the weight. Be patient, it will happen!

Kelly, I know just how you feel! At my 2 week checkup I had lost 11 pounds
then the 3 week checkup I had only lost another 2 pounds leaving me at a
total of 13 pounds. I have not weighed since!! My next doctor's
appointment is just around the corner, so I'm excited to see how things
have progressed. Don't get discouraged and depressed. We all lose at such
different rates, there is no way to compare. It was just recently for me
that my clothing started to fit different and the sizes were smaller. Give
your body time to heal and adjust, it's been through a rough time. Just
keep doing what your surgeon recommends and you will succeed! Dena

Kelly, please take this advice: throw out your scale. If you are
monitoring this closely and only two weeks out, I hate to see what happens
at your first plateau. No, you cannot compare! So, simply do not weigh.
Weigh only at the Doctors. Weight fluctuates so much in the matter of one
day- it's just not a honest read. So weigh every thirty days, and no more.

I almost cried at my two-week checkup, I had lost just 7 pounds. That
disappointment is a distant memory, now. At 7 months post-op, I am only 4
pounds away from the Century Club. Just hang in there, you'll soon see
terrific results.

kelly, hang in there sweety! what you are going through is more common than
you think. your body has just been through a major surgery, its still
healing and probably wondering what the heck just happened, it needs time
to adjust to the new way of things and as soon as this happens your ganna
be just fine!at first i too was obsessed with the scale but it only made me
crazy! its hard not to hop on it especially in the beginning but id maybe
do it only once a week . this surgery really works and as long as good
habits are continued, your eating enough and getting your water in this is
ganna work baby so hang in there, your in for the journey of your life!! :)

Try not to panic, which is hard at this point I know. It might take your
body just a little longer to really get the point. Some folks bodies hold
out for a month. Use this early time to rest and heal, and get used to
your new stomach. The pounds WILL come off, I guarantee it.
