Question:
Can anyone give me some help or advice?
I had lap Rny on 01/08/03 so it has almost been 3 weeks, I didn't have any major complications, one small one with muscle spasms, but fixed that last week. However beginning Saturday it seems every single thing I eat, I throw up, I don't understand it, why is this happening, everything was fine before? I am supposed to return to work tomorrow, and I can't figure out what to do because if I go back before I am ready and then have to take off again, I will have to wait for that dumb waiting period again. Anyone know what is causing this. Just so you know it isn't overeating, as one bite makes me throw up, and yes I am chewing chewing chewing... I don't get this, should I be afraid? Judi — Judi S. Judi, This could be a stricture, which is when the opening from your pouch
to your intestines closes up. It is fairly common, especially in new
post-ops, but is also fairly easily fixed. Don't go to work tomorrow, but
stay home and call your surgeon. I haven't had this but have read that to
fix it they use an endoscope to insert a tube down your throat to open it
up. I know it sounds pretty awful, but they do give you meds to relax you,
so having the scope put down isn't all that bad. I have been scoped, so I
know that part of it.

If it isn't what the previous poster wrote, try going back one stage for a
day or two. When the stomach gets irritated, it takes a little while to
calm down. Trying to eat again, may make the stomach even more irritated.
Go to liquids for a day, then soft foods, the regular, or whatever stage
you are currently on. But I agree, do call your surgeon. The people here
can help with some things, by experience, but the majority of us are not
doctors. Best bet is to call yours. Good luck.
