Question:
Is gas controllable after WLS?

I had Open RNY 11/11/02 and I hardly ever get gas. Sometimes I get it late
at night if I hadn't eaten a lot that day...It's definitely controllable,
at least it is in my case.

I have almost no gas since surgery, only have gas when I'm going to the
bathroom. So for me a least, there is no question of control, because
prior to surgery I had almost constant gas, propably all those wrong food
choices!!! Good Luck Cathy Whitmer

It is as controllable as it was before my surgery. That means that,
depending on what I eat, I get more or less. Right after surgery, for
about 6-9 months, I had a lot of gas as my intestines and I got
reacquainted with what causes gas for me. For example, I never got gas
from broccoli before, but now, eating raw broccoli gives me gas. But now
that that has passed (no pun intended), I fart no more than anyone else I
know....

I had the WORST gas issues for the first 2-3 months after surgery, I
thought it was just my body adjusting to everything because I was following
the nutritionists diet to the letter. Well I finally figured out my gas
problem was from the STARCHES they "allowed". I cut them
completely and low and behold I can go out in public again!!! YEAH ME!!! We
are all sooo different but that was my problem and not all of the patients
are like that in my doc's office. I hope you are one of the
"lucky" ones;).

Mine is completely controllable. If I eat high protien, low carbs, no
sugar, I have NO gas. If I eat some carbs, I have some, If I eat some sugar
and pound down a couple of beers, I can clear a stadium!
