Question:
I am 1 month post op today and am very concerned about how much I can eat
I have only felt full a couple of times since surgery and am really afraid my pouch is streched out or the staples have come undone examples of what I can eat 4 meat balls (the kind you buy frozen like at costco) with a little bit on noodles and sauce, I also ate 3/4 of the small santa fe chicken salad at Applebees I did not fill full, cheese stick and 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3/4 cup refried beans with cheese, a whole egg scrambled with some cheese what do you guys think is it to much — kathy B. Well, do you know how big your pouch is to begin with? I assume you had
the RNY done? I had the DS, and that does not seem like too much to me.
That's about what I'm eating at 6 weeks out.

I'll be the bearer of bad news.... since this is an area that has been
neglected. IF you feel there is a problem, have your doctor set you up for
an upper GI test... I had an open RNY 11/2000 and felt right away that I
was eating more than what people had told me pre op. My surgeon
'neglected' my concern until 5 months posts; turned out I had "no
pouch" function. This happens when the opening from your new stomach
is to big. IF this happens, you will be able to eat more than your 'RNY'
peers; BUT with 'diet' the rest of your RNY WILL BE working and you will
loose weight. BUT, if you do have this problem, it will be up to you to
"diet" you will have no physical limitations from the surgery.
Granted, this happens to about 1% of RNY but it can happen. Put your mind
at rest, and have the upper GI done.

Kathy, bring your concerns to a dtr, I eat that much now at 5 mos post-op
but was no where near that at 6 wks, I could barely do 1/3 of a wendy's
chili.

I have the same concern! I am also 6 weeks out and think I can eat too
much. For example, today for lunch I had a Lean Cousine canteloni (sp?)
(they come two to a dinner with a total net weight of 9 1/2 oz.) I ate ONE
of them. Yes, it filled me up and I was a little woozy afterward...but is
this too much?
