Hi Judi,
I am scheduled for open RNY on 1-15-03. I too am nervous. I think your
stress is normal from everything I've read here. I worry about everything,
the big stuff and the little stuff. You'd be amazed at how many nights I've
laid awake thinking about what to bring to the hospital and what I can eat
after and whether my flight will be on time (I am flying for surgery). My
suggestion is to give yourself permission to be nervous, to talk things
through with friends or on here and to get as much info as you can so you
feel like you have some control! Best wishes for a successful surgery and
a speedy recovery and weight loss!

Hey Girl,
You have every right in the world to be nervous!! This is a major turning
point in your life. the first few weeks after surgery are rough but the
time spent waiting for surgery seems like an eternity..Spend your time
preparing for when you come home. Get a recliner, get food, meds, bandages
etc..you will need when you get home. I am 5 months post op and I know this
was the best decision of my life..I have lost 70 lbs and have had no
complications..Hang in there, your day will be here before you know
it...Best of luck to you..

Settle down, Sweetie, and know that you are not the first nor the last to
feel this way! I was positively freaked out, laughing one moment and
crying the next. You will be fine and you will get through all this and
you will laugh to remember it and will post words of encouragement for some
future person going through what you are right now. Plus, your surgery
date is Elvis' birthday and the King (okay, that would be Jesus....) won't
let you down!!!

I was the exact opposite. I was nervous after the surgery when I weighed
for the first time and saw that I had lost 40 pds and this was really going
to work. I started to get nervous before my surgery, but then I realized
that when I originally decided to have this surgery, I made that decision
with a clear head, and that these concerns and fears I was now having were
based in fear and not logic. I soon was able to get past them. I walked
into the hospital completely calm and ready to go. You can too!! Just think
back to when you started you journey and how much you wanted this surgery.
Now it's going to happen!! this is a time to be happy not NERVOUS!! You
will do fine!! Good Luck we are all pulling for you!!

Hi Judy. I am scheduled for Lap RNY on Jan 13, 2003, and I too am feeling
the same way. I keep thinking that something is going to happen and I am
going to get the flu or just anything that will stop me from going thru
with it on the 13th. And I wonder will it be a sign to not do it. I want
this so bad... I wanted it yesterday! But I am nervous and scared and
anxious and excited...so many emotions to deal with! But I know what we are
going thru is quite normal. Best wishes to you!

You sound pretty normal to me. I drove everyone around me nuts for a few
weeks before my surgery. I went to have a massage thinking that this might
help my stress. I became a basket case. I think it released all of my
pent up nerves and stress and I cried for hours afterwards. Good luck with
your up coming surgery. We all will be waiting for you on the losing side.

Hi...I am scheduled for surgery on January 10..Let me tell you that you are
not alone. I have became a basket-case. I took my dog for a walk(on a
leash) and later after we returned home, he needed to go out to
"potty". Well after searching thru the house EVERYWHERE for his
leash, I found that I had "not knowingly" placed his leash in the
FREEZER. My husband said I was losing my mind. The sub-consciousness has
a way a working with your head. Good luck with your surgery and God bless
you and me too!

Dear Judi Thank you for posting, I thought I was alone! I am scheduled
for open RNY on 01/02/03 and am a basket case! I was originally scheduled
for 12/31/02 and when it got moved 2 days I freaked. My family is staying
clear of me, as they are unsure if they will make me cry or mad! But
reading many of these replys we are of the norm, so lets hang in there.
Good Luck and God Bless Janet Grant

I just had my surgery on 12/11/02, and I was feeling just like you are for
the weeks previous. I cried and then I was thrilled, then I cried, ect...
ect... Pretty soon, it will be over, and you'll have other things to worry
about, like how in the heck am I supposed to get in THAT much water in a
day??? When I got to the hospital, I was shaking, and crying, and almost
didn't go through with it. Then, I was laying in the pre-op area, waiting
for my IV and I was suddenly calm. It was real, I was doing it, and all I
had to do was deep breathe, and talk myself into happy thoughts. The next
thing I knew, I was waking up back in my room. Then a whole new set of
worries kicked in, and I wasn't scared anymore. I did ask myself several
times, why the hell did I do this, but after about 2 days, those thoughts
went away. I'm SO GLAD I did this. It's already amazing. Just hang on for
the ride, it's a little bumpy, but it's worth it.

Don't worry this will be the first of many. Just believe this is the best
thing you will ever do for yourself. God is good just remember that. God
bless!
