Question:
Ever tried Capri-Sun Pouch drinks?
I was wondering if we could tolerate the Capri-Sun Pouch drinks, like Wild Cherry? I seem to be able to tolerate Orange Juice,Apple Juice and those type of things that have "natural sugars". I'd like to try it, but so far i have never dumped because i don't like to test my limits. Anyone ever drank these and had problems?? Thank you for your answers! Why would you want all of that sugar? Capri Sun drinks are only about 10%
juice. My nutritionist says to stick with 100% juice - no sugar added.
And, even then, I limit the amount of juice that I drink.

Capri Sun is junk drink - mostly sugar and artificial ingredients. Stick
with 100% juices. I have to be very careful with them, even, because I do
dump on juice sometimes if I drink too much.

Avoid junk drinks. I would like to suggest Juicy Juice. 100% juice over
ice. You could also put them in an ice trace in the freezer for a popcicle
effect.

I have a non-popular answer I guess. I drink juice boxes and pouches and
I've never had a problem. I didn't have this surgery to be on a diet and
not drink what I want to. I've also lost 200 lbs so it is NOT hindering my
weight loss.

Monica - I'm happy for your decision, but for the majority of WLS RNY
patients, drinking sugar water (which is what the bulk of Capri-Sun and
most juice box drinks are) is a bad thing. Besides dumping, the excessive
carbs (like 25g of sugar in one of those pouches) will stimulate your
appetite. This is something that most people do not want - at least at
the point that we're trying to lose this weight...JR

In general, caloric drinks are considered a "no-no" for posties.
That said, I do drink coffee with non-fat milk (reg or dry) and some juice.
But I won't even let my daughter drink those sugar drinks. I insist that
she have 100% juice products and limit her to one juice box a day. I stick
with the same guidelines (or less) for myself.
There are PLENTY of
great-tasting 100% juice products out there. The best I have found are the
ones with Winnie-the-Pooh on them. They have apple-strawberry and
apple-raspberry-peach flavors that are absolutely TO DIE FOR! and the juice
boxes are just the right size. Those Capri Sun pouches are about twice as
big encouraging you to drink more than you really need.
There is a
difference in the sugar from fruit juice and that which is used in the
sugar drinks. I have no problem with fruit sugar but will be sick from the
other type drinks. Of course, we all make our own decisions, so good luck
to you either way. Like I always say, anything in moderation!
