Question:
Anyone had problems with the drain incision closing?

I am 2 weeks post op(LAP RNY) and having trouble getting the drain incision to close. All the others are closed and healing. I have sent a message to the doctor but wanted to see what others have experienced. Wes    — wesley B. (posted on December 18, 2002)

I had the same problem. When the doctor pulled the drain out he told me it would close the next day or so. It actually took about 2 weeks but it did eventually close. Just keep a bandage on it and wait it out you'll be fine.

When I had my G-tube removed at 12 days post op, it took about 3.5 weeks to fully close over. Now I have a large circular scar there. The tube was quite large though. My doc said to keep it clean, covered and could apply polysporin to it if I wanted. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov. 4/02 (-37 lbs.)

The hole left after having a drain heals from the inside out. So even though you won't see the healing its still happening. Plus if you have any drainage still occuring in that area it will tend not to heal shut until the drainage is stopped.
