Question:
2 Weeks 'Till Surgery

Hello all! I just found out this morning that I will be having surgery 2 weeks from today! I am so excited, I just can't wait. My question is this - Where should I be in regards to my preparations? I know I can't make everything "perfect", but I want to get as close as possible. I need any info you guys can contribute such as packing for hospital stay, what to expect, and what to buy at the grocery store. If I went to the grocery store right now, I'm afraid I would buy everything in the place. I don't want to spend more money than is necessary, but I also want to be prepared. Any help from my friends would be great! Thanks in advance.    — Wendie G. (posted on December 3, 2002)

Hi, if your surgery date is 2 weeks from today... that makes it Dec. 17...the same day that mine is scheduled! Cool, huh? Well, I have not packed anything as of yet, but have my list. Just taking slippers, brush, lotion, chapstick, a calling card and my trusty pillow for my bely on the trip home. My shopping list for home, after surgery consists of Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast drink, adult liquid tylenol, cream of wheat, sugar free jello, soup, sugar free popsicles, Calcium Citrate, Flinstones chewable vitamins, Sublingual B-12, and Gas-X. But that is just a start!!! :) I am really getting excited now... as I am sooo ready to get rid of this weight! Take care and you will be in my thoughts and prayers on the day of "our" surgery!

I just had surgery on November 26th and these things helped me with my hospital stay. Good luck with yours. In the couple weeks before surgery, try to get 20 minutes daily exercise. Pratice deep breathing and coughing, which will make it much easier to do after you surgery. At least one week before surgery, stop taking all medicines with contain aspirin, or anti-inflammatory agents, such as Bufferin, Alka-Seltzer, Aleve, or Motrin. Many surgeons require that you stop smoking before surgery. Things to take to the hospital: A roomy bath robe Slip on house slippers (so you won't need to bend over) Small fan Loose fitting gown or clothes to wear home. Maxipads (some women start their period after surgery) Chapstick (some hospitals will supply this) hairbrush, Toothpaste, toothbrush, Deodorant Lotion Shampoo Baby Wipes Tongs/long back scratcher (to help reach places you can't) Magazines or books Let me know if I can help any further! Good Luck!
