Question:
How will I be affected from alcohol now?
Hi, I'm not a huge drinker, but when I go out or picnics I like to enjoy myself. Can I still drink and will it make me drunk quicker? — Kelly* P. (posted on November 22, 2002)

You will be drunk quicker. Don't bother buying a 6 pack, 1 will be enough.
Unless you have a high tolerant for alcohol. I drink Tequila sunrises and
I can't finish 1/2 of one. Be safe and sane.

Kelly ~ Your reaction to will be much stronger and faster. Try to stay
away from "Sweet" drinks. I had about a 1/3 of a Margarita and
starting dumping. Had to go right home! It was not pretty. BUT, I find
that I can drink Diet Coke and Rum or Diet Coke and Vanilla Stoli. The
alcohol "flattens" the Diet Coke. I can only have one but I sip
it slowly. Good luck and whatever you do make sure you have someone to
drive you...you never know how drinking will affect you after surgery.

Unlike the other posters, I have not found where alcohol is effecting me
any faster than it used to; however, I used to drink shots quite a bit and
haven't even attempted those yet. I find I've done quite well drinking
Vodka with Cranberry Juice. I haven't tried beer or anything else
carbonated yet.

HMMMM. I am also not a big drinker but I did notice something the last time
I had a glass of wine. I was feeling pretty tipsy about halfway through the
glass, so I switched to water. After drinking some of the water, I was no
longer feeling tipsy. At all. Like I had never had any wine. It was really
weird!

I do like ot have an occasional drink, and yes, it seems to affect me
quicker, but the "buzz" is also gone quicker. I like to drink
ocean spray light cran-raspberry with a splash of OJ in it, then some
raspberry vodka. Tastes great and low in sugar. Plus i can control the
amount of alcohol in it. I have some of the Michelob low carb beer in the
fridge upstairs, I bought it last week, and have not tried it yet

I have never been a big drinker even before surgery, but since surgery I
have tried a mixed drink twice and both times I only drank about 1/2 before
the room started spinning and I wanted to lie down. (Before I could drink
2-3 and they never seemed to affect me much) So be careful if you plan to
drink while out and be sure you have a designated driver:)

I have noticed that less alcohol affects me very quickly, but I also feel
the effects for a much shorter time. I also had to stop drinking beer,
because it made me have the worst gas! Just be careful.

I am 6'3" and a former frat guy and I'm almost embarrased to admit
that I can now get loaded on a single glass of wine. My wife says I'm a
cheap date now!

Kelly, my dtr refers to it as the "cheap date syndrome"....1

well.. I'll do the lecture part first... if enjoying yourself means
drinking.. I'd take a look at what fun means to you and see if you can make
some changes.. <br>
that said, I didn't drink much before surgery but do like good wine and
really good beer.. right now.. I've had about 3 oz of champagne since
surgery and about 4 oz of beer .. different times.. in both situations..
that was plenty to make me feel alittle tipsy and flushed... it goes
through you very quickly and straight to your head, never mind that
liver... you should be very careful. Good luck.
