Question:
I am 9 weeks post op and feel sick everytime I eat.

I just started feeling sick recently anytime I eat anything except for saltine crackers. I am getting my water in, but I know I can't possibly be eating enough. I get sick after a few bites. Before this last week, I was able to eat really well. Now I haven't lost any weight for over a week and I can't eat! Has anyone else dealt with this, and what did you do? I don't think it could be a stricture because I think I am to far out for that. Any ideas what it may be?    — nchaudoin (posted on November 21, 2002)

I felt like this for a while also. I found if I could just get a little something down in the morning, that will keep me on track for the day. I normaly scramble an egg and can get down half.

I went through this, too. At about the same time, I think. Everything made me sick to my stomach. I couldn't drink water anymore either, and I still can't sometimes. Protein shakes wouldn't stay down ... I thought I was in real trouble. My doctor's nurse told me that she thought I was eating too fast. So I fixed that, and it helped some. I think it's just a phase. Try to find something that will stay down. Maybe some crackers with cheese. If you can't drink water try a Crystal Light flavor. The only one that I could drink (and still do) is the decaf Iced Tea. Good luck. Hang in there. It will pass.

Ok, I've got to ask, as a nurse one of things we worry about when people say they're nauseated after eating, how are your bowel movements? Sometimes this is the culprit. I find this is the main problem in the elderly and with my own daughter who is 3years old. If they quit or slow down eating, c/o nausea with or without vomiting, running low-grade to high fever, chances are the potty department needs to be evaluated. Nasty subject, but you know, all of us HAS to do it. LOL

Please check with your surgeon's office about this. You may have a closing of your stoma and need to have it scoped. In any case, it should be checked out by your surgeon.

You MAY have what I had..and that is an ulcer on your esphogus...i was sick 24/7 and couldnt eat for 1.5 months. They should do an endoscopy to check what's going on. I am ok now but still need meds for the ulcer...
