Question:
I am one week post-op (lap RNY) and sometimes have indigestion and a burning
sensation in my lower stomach. I have a lot of gas and alternate between diarhea and constipation... is this normal? — Gail S. (posted on November 19, 2002)

Gail, what you are experiencing is pretty normal. I know that I went
through the same thing and I've heard many, many others say the same thing.
Don't worry, it does get better. I think mine was much better by week 4
so hang in there. If you are worried about you're feeling don't hesitate
to call your doctor.

I had that too. Ask for a medication that will decrease the acid. I was on
protonix for about 6 months post op. IT helped lots.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR! anything you question at this early post op needs to be
addressed to your surgeon. there should be no feeling of indigestion or
burning because your little pouch doesn't produce any gastric juices. You
could have an ulcer in your pouch so don't take a chance, call the doctor
ASAP.

I had the same. Surgeon told me it was ok. Only lasted a couple weeks for
me. Never had it again after that.

This is normal, but it is still an unecessary irritation to your insides.
My surgeon sent us home with prescribed Zantac for a few months to prevent
this.
