Question:
I would love to hear from others who have had the same surgery.
I'm almost 2 months post-op and I see a nutritionist, BUT I would like to know what others are eating at this stage and beyond. It's so hard not to just eat what I want, but I don't want to do too much too soon. Any suggestions? — Melissa S. (posted on November 15, 2002)

hi there! :) first of all congrats on being post op now! hope all is well
for you! :) just remember to get your protein in and vitamins and always
chew real good and watch the carbs as best you can and definetly the
sugars! best advice i can give is when your trying anything new, take one
bite, wait a bit to kinda see how its going to agree or disagree with you
and chew very well, also, once your start getting that satisfied feeling,
stop, if you feel pain, youve either overeaten or the food is not agreeing
with you.by 2 months out, i was eating sf jello, broth, cottage
cheese, refried beans,i think i tried string cheese too. all went well,i
just took it real slow.i tried egg too and it was ok. by 5 weeks out i
asked surgeon about baby carrots. he gave me the ok but stressed to chew
chew chew. i did and they went down well too. i handled meat really well
too but it fills you up pretty fast.best of luck to you! :)

My surgeon has a nutritionist on staff and we see him at every visit. I
don't know how people do this without one. This is a list of what foods
when got when:
Week 1 Clear Liquid
Week 2 Liquid
Week 3 - 6 Eggs, cheese, beans, peanut butter, cracker, yogart
Week 6 Seafood and white pototoes, toast
Week 8 Chicken, Turkey
Month 3 Soft cooked veggies, pasta
Month 4 Raw veggies and fruit
Month 6 Red Meat and Pork
I have followed this to the letter. Sharon - 100 in 6 months

My surgeon stressed that it takes about 6 weeks after surgery for swelling
to go down - and by then the criticle healing is probably past - although
you should allow 6 months for recovery. I was told to eat normally - try
for 3 meals a day (I have finally given up small healthy snacks at 11
months out) and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Chew well until you get the hang of
it and lots of water and take your "pills".
I suggest you read and listen to advice - and then make your decisions.
Patience -
