Question:
Has anyone developed GERD after RNY? I thought with no acid in our

I thought the same thing. I still cant understand it but i had it bad but it only lasted two weeks. Never had it again after that.

It is a misconception that there is no acid in our pouch. There is acid there, its just that the quantity is reduced becasue the acid that is produced in the larger portion is bypassed. There is a small amount and usually does not cause irritation with reflux. For me, when the reflux started it was a result of a breakdown in the staple line that allowed the 'other' acid to come into my pouch. This breakdown was very small, too small to affect the amount of food I could eat, but enought to allow for the acid to pass through and cause problems.
