Question:
What is the deal on turbinado sugar? It has the same calories and carb grams as
white sugar, so what is the attraction? — Dana S. (posted on November 13, 2002)

The difference between turbinado sugar and regular "white" sugar
is that turbinado sugar is usually well tolerated by gastric bypass
patients. I only use it in recipes. I don't really taste a difference, but
it did NOT make me dump so that's a good thing. :o)

The less processing any food has the better. Turbinado sugar is less
processed by far. It is still sugar though and should be used with extreme
caution - as it can cause weight gain even if well tolerated.

Turbinado sugar is not as refined as white table sugar and you shouldn't
dump on it. When you want a treat on a special occasion there are so many
things you can make with it that you can't tell the difference than if it
had been made with white sugar or regular brown sugar. Check out my
profile page for some recipes if you are interested....it will take you to
a web page with a couple recipes and pictures for old-fashioned peanut
butter cookies and hot fudge pudding cake.
