Question:
Difference between Distol and proximal?
What's the difference between RNY Distal and RNY Proximal? — Kelly* P. (posted on November 4, 2002)

the amount of intestine bypassed. Proximal, less bypassed, distal, more
bypassed. The more intestine you have bypassed, the more malabsorption you
have which "generally" equals more weight loss for those with
lots of weight to lose (greater then 200 pounds). Unfortunately, it also
means more malabsorption of essential nutrients and more problems later.
Good Luck to you!

Yes, what she said and I do believe the amount that determines whether it
is proximal or distal is greater than or less than 150 cm. 150 is about
the average bypassed, some call that 'medial'.
