Question:
Shaking really bad what could be causing this??

Here lately I have noticed that if I eat anything with sugar in it during the day in the evening or at night I will start to shake real bad & I feel really awful normally if I eat some peanut butter that will help but I am worried that it may be something serious. I have also been having pain around my pouch I would go see my doctor but only one problem he is no longer in the same state he had gotten transffered so I don't have a gastric doctor any more. What should I do??? Should I just go & see my regualr doctor??? Please help.    — Jennifer F. (posted on October 28, 2002)

This is an example of dumping. Some people find they can't eat any sugar after the surgery. This could also be what is affecting the pouch

It does sound like dumping but you are not a new post-op and it sounds like this is something new that just started happening to you, is that right? If so, then I suggest seeing your regular doctor and getting full labs done. Something else may be going on and it is better to be safe and have everything checked. While waiting to find out you should probably keep a log of what you are eating and when you get the symptoms (1-2 hours later, etc). That way you can better correlate any connection, if there is one.

You might be experiencing Reactive Hypoglycemia. It's not too unsual at about 2 yrs post-op. I struggled with it for about 5 yrs, but either I learned how to deal with it, or it's lletting me be for awhile. You might want to pop onto the Grad list and ask about it. Those who are in the know on this will give you lots of info. Perhaps they can guide you to a doc in your area who has a grasp on some of these long term post-op issues. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG

I would like to add something else. Look into dehydration and low potassium.

When you find out, please let me know. I also shake sometimes. I know its not dumping because it happens when I haven't eaten anything to cause me to dump or not eating at all. I'm also two years post op, so if you find out the answer, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks www.aimsk.org

Lately I have been shaking also. I get cold easily since surgery and last weekend I went on a wine drinking binge and the beginning of the week, which was Monday I was shaking pretty bad and I figured that this is from the wine. Have anyone had the shakes due to the weather or as a result from drinking too much wine? I don't plan on doing that again. Now I feel like I triggered some kind of imbalance or deficiency in my body and I regret this a lot! I also start to shake if I am underdressed on cold days, has anyone experience this?

I was almost 6 months out and could tolerate sugar okay. Then it seems almost overnight that it reversed itself and I can only handle sugar in extremely small amounts. Otherwise I get the shakes, start to sweat terribly and feel awful. Believe me after a few bouts of that (and once I figured out what was causing it) I learned to limit my sugar intake. If I need choc. one miniture candy is fine. Anymore than that, look out. I figure that I just can't process the sugar like I used to. It also helps me limit my carb intake. In the process I have discoverd quite a few sugarless and no sugar added snacks. I don't deprive myself, but I don't go overboard either.
