Question:
Can anyone give me suggestions for protein other than cheese, meat, and eggs?

I am so sick of eating cheese, meat, and eggs, but I don't want to spend 2 dollars a pack for a protein supplement! Any suggestions? — nchaudoin (posted on October 25, 2002)

By meat, do you mean beef or all meats (chicken, pork, turkey, lamb, etc). You can eat fish or shellfish. Peanut butter (or any kind of nuts) are protein rich. Beans (especially soybeans) and legumes too. Tofu... Milk... Yogurt...

Did you ever try protein cakes? They come in various flavors and are very low carb/ high protein. (and delicious!) Here is the link: http://www.supervita.com./

You could use TOFU or Vegatable Protien or Predigested protien. But if your doctor has advised you to be careful w/estrogen (sp) you may not want to use the TOFU. Also if you are counting carbs you may want to check the carb grams.I use TOFU alot although I am pre-op! I freeze my Tofu first thaw then season and use in place of some meats. For good Tofu/vegatable protien recipies you can go to www.veggiesunite.com I like the hot tofu bites//they really taste like buffalow wings. You can also check with your local health food store-- Just remember the key to making these alt protien sources taste good is marinating!! good luck!

Hi, this is simple, the nutritionalist at our seminar, told us just to sprinkle powdered milk into things, coffee, skim milk, it adds lots of protien and is pretty easy to take in.

I hate to pop anyone's bubble, but in repsponse to the last item on one of the lists...sperm is mostly sugar. I looked up the nutritional (sp?) contents. Go ahead and laugh, but I was curious! The guys will still have fun with this one!

Tofu is great because you can do tons of stuff with it. It can be scrambled like eggs, cubed and added to any soups, or put in the blender to add protein to any smoothie, etc. You can also mash/blend the silken style, add some flavoring (i.e., extracts, sugar-free syrups, etc.) and stevia if needed to make a "pudding" - not the same as milk-based, but high in protein, easy to digest. If your regular supermarket doesn't have much of a selection, there's lots available in health food or oriental food stores. Also look for the baked/flavored varieties - just make sure to read the ingredients if you have problems with sugar or sodium levels. Good luck and keep up the great work!

I enjoy cream cheese and/or peanut butter spread on a celery stick. Chew well! I love jerky (homemade is best and cheap and you can really watch how much salt/sugar is added). When I got sick of scrambled and fried eggs, I switched to deviled eggs or egg salad (put on a celery stick or a lettuce leaf if you can tolerate it is very good). Egg fritatas are good too. Chop up and saute your favorite veggie combos (I like spinach, broccoli, tomato, bell peppers and onion or chives) until just tender, spread out in a small short dish, pour scrambled eggs over it and bake in the micro until done. Top with mozarella cheese and micro a few seconds more to melt it. Yummm!

Homemade chili with turkey burger and kidney beans (slow cooked), any meat slow cooked and moist (I love ribs with a sugar-free bbq sauce on them), mozarella string cheese, well ok more meat, eggs and cheese lol. I just try to find different ways to prep them. Good luck!

I like Sport Cookies-they are a little expensive but well worth it in my opinion-I guess this is along the same lines as the Protein Cakes, but they are cookies. WWW.PROTOCOOKIE.COM (on average they have about 140 calories, 3 g's fat, 12 g's carbs, 0 sugar, and 15g's protein). My favorite is the Nutty Peanut Butter. And these are sweetened with Splenda so I don't dump on them and I feel like I am eating a cookie right out of my own oven! ENJOY!

Here are some of the things my doctor suggests: sardines, jerky, corned beef hash, soy nuts, peanut butter, nuts, refried beans, yogurt, and Lactose Free Slim Fast. The Slim Fast is relatively cheap as supplements go. It is a powder and mixes with cold water. I put it in the freezer and let it get really slushy. Jerky is my best friend and I also enjoy soy nuts and peanuts.
