I still have year to go until I will go for a tummy tuck or other plastic surgery and want to know if anyone else has had them approve any kind of plastic surgery and the steps/hoops you had to go through. P.S. I work for Safelite Auto Glass. Thanks!!! 13 weeks post op RNY and down 57# — rdszakacs (posted on August 21, 2002)

Hi! All I can say so far is Good Luck! I had my RNY December 2001 and
picked up Cigna through my employer Jan 1 2002. I began @500 pounds and
have lost down to 340 so far. I have been trying to get a panniculectomy
for months and right now I am in their '1st level appeal' process. I've
sent them the most horrid pictures of what my heavy overhanging apron does
to my thighs, pubic area and under my stomach. Whatever. Anyway I don't
see how they can deny this!! Can you tell I'm slightly irritated? I can
tell you what they will want: At LEAST six months of documented treatment
via your PCP or specialist for any problems it is causing you. I always
self treated - BIG MISTAKE. I am now taking pictures with a digital camera
and dating them for every single rash I get. If you get rashes, I suggest
you do the same. If I were you I would go to your PCP for everything that
could be even remotely related to your 'redundant skin.
Documentation/agony apparently is key. Best of Luck to you!!

I have Cigna PPO in Ohio. Although it was the only surgery my plastic
surgeon said I needed I did get Cigna to pay for my Tummy tuck. I paid for
a breast augmentation myself. As long as you can prove that the skin
hanging down is causing rashes you will be okay.
