Question:
Eat Right 4 Your Type Blood, that is
I'm kind of laughing here. An attorney friend who has been very supportive of my decision to have WLS also loaned me a book to read - Eat Right 4 Your Type by "Dr." Peter J. D'Adamo with Catherine Whitney. This is the silliest diet I have ever seen in my life and really confirms my decision to have WLS. To think that it's my blood type that has me overweight!!! Maybe it's my hair color or the fact that my grandmother gambled or my family came from Siberia. Perhaps it was the fact I've loved chocolate all my life. Well.........maybe I'm onto something with the last idea. Sorry I'm posting here but I had to get that off my chest and I certainly can't tell my friend what I REALLY think of the book. I'll just thank him very much for loaning it to me.......... Nelly<P> Any other funny diet ideas ut there? — Nell C. (posted on July 31, 2002)

I have to say that I even though I think the diet is a bunch of hooey, it
works for some! I have a friend who started the program about 2 years ago
and has shed 125 lbs and kept it off - not only does she look great, but
her health has improved tremendously! There MUST be SOMETHING to it!

Okay. I won't laugh too hard. I'm surprised to find 2 testimonials BUT
after reviewing the suggested diet plans, I have to say if I followed ANY
of the blood types, I would HAVE to lose some weight. What the book
suggested about my own blood type was pure malarky. Same with my
husband's. So I guess maybe a few people can benefit from this. I forgot
to add that "Dr." D'Adamo is not a medical doctor, he's a
naturopathic physician. But most of the reviews I've read on this, unless
they are from vegans and the like, really tear it apart, especially the
"scientific" facts. Nelly

There was also a diet for whatever astrological sign you are too. Being a
Scorpio, I would have eaten alot of seafood on this. But then again, that
was my original problem as I was already on a seafood diet.... the more I
SEE FOOD, the more I ate.

I have to say, I think that some of the stuff in the book works. My mother
has been following the plan for about 2 years now, and she dropped 15lbs
(she's a skinny minney anyway), and it has improved her allergies. When
she gets away from the plan, she feels like S**t, has to take allergy
medicine, gets bloated, tired all the time, but as soon as she's back on,
she feels better. It's working for her. I tried it before WLS, too, but
I'm A-, so I was basically supposed to be a vegetarian, and not eat meat at
all...lentils and tofu kinda gal - Yuck!

Don't be so quick to judge the diet. Believe it or not, there are some
chemical and biological realities to the diet. I have known some people who
have followed the diet religiously and swear by it. Granted, it is not
something that I would recommend for the typical Gastric Bypass patient
because, depending on your blood type, you might end up protein deficient.
Anyway, try to keep an open mind. When people are so quick to judge the
type of surgery we are having, we don't like it.... so lets try not to be
so quick to jump on the judgemental bandwagon when it comes to other diet
options.. Just a thought! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii).........

Whoa Nelly! You really opened the barn door on that one. I think that I own
every diet book ever published and I read that one and it doesn't seem as
far off base as any of the others. They all just seem to work for some
people and not for others, and at this point I am just tired of trying and
failing in my dieting attempts. I am SO GLAD that we have recourse to WLS
and feel that we have finally found something that might really work for us
long-term. Thanks for being my email buddy! Becky

Haha, Rebecca! BUT I have done some more research and real MEDICAL doctors
say there is no basis of fact for this guy's claims. Now, if you do look
at a suggested day's diet, it's easy to see why people lose weight. As far
as just feeling better eating what he tells you eat for your blood type, it
seems that he is advocating a totally healthy diet regardless of your blood
type, obviously a diet that is most probably very different from what MOs
eat. So, yes, I agree, there are probably people who lose weight and/or
feel better but I don't think he's hit on any new revolutionary idea here.
If there were a real answer to MO that was easier than the surgeon's sword
--- I mean scapel --- I would definitely prefer that. Guess I'll go
forward with my surgery on 9/16......which is 44-1/2 days from now........
