Question:
Who else out there have Cirrhosis and Hep C ?
I am very disappointed. After my initial surgeons visit, the doctor had me go for all the other tests needed. I do have Sleep Apnea, but other than that, nothing else new with my health. He knew at the time about the Cirrhosis and Hepatitis C. In fact, he even told me he had done others with the same health issues. I was given a date and then told by the nurse the doctor decided he thought I was too high a risk. I have been asking to speak with him for three weeks now. For some reason, he feels I am not important enough to spend five minutes, to call me and explain why he came to that decision. I am looking for suggestions and or someone that has the same health issues as myself and have encountered any problems. Thanks for your help folks. — Cindy H. (posted on July 8, 2002)

I don't have exactly the same health problems as you... But I found out I
have Hepatitis C when I had my pre-op blood work done. My surgeon left me
on the surgery schedule but ordered more blood work. Once the viral load
test came back and it was less than 10... he said I could still have my
surgery. You didn't say whether you just discovered that you have sleep
apnea or you already knew that you had it... but maybe he wants you to get
started on treatment for that before surgery. I think every surgeon is
different. A lot of it probably depends on their comfort level and
experience. Maybe if there is another surgeon in your area you could talk
with him or her. I definitely would ask to talk to your present surgeon
and make him explain to you exactly why he won't do the surgery. Maybe
even DEMAND to see him. If it were me, I'd probably just go to his office,
park my butt in the waiting room, and tell them I'm not leaving until I get
to talk to the doctor. That's just me though! =) I'm sorry things aren't
going as planned for you. Good luck!
