Question:
Has anyone else had these symptoms?
I am 9 months post op, and have lost 114 lbs. I have noticed in the last few months that after I eat, I get flushed and hot, and stay that way for an hour or more. Usually this happens on the days I work. For lunch I usually have a salad with baked chicken, and an orange. I have an hour for lunch, so I don't believe I am eating too fast. I have tried looking up vaso-vagal syndrome, because I believe the vagus nerve is cut or injured during the surgery. I just know it is very uncomfortable, and I wondered if anyone besides me had ever experienced this. — Peggy E. (posted on July 2, 2002)

A whole orange? That just sounds high in sugar. Wondering if you could be
having a stage 1 dumping. Not all the way to the floor, just a few
symptoms?

I agree with Michelle. That always happens to me if I eat too much fat or
sugar in a meal.

I agree with the others...almost 3 years out, and I still can't eat an
orange. I don't know if it's the pulp or the sugar, but it sure makes me
feel yucky. Try giving up the orange, and see if it makes a difference.

I would not think it was the Orange that was making you feel that way. And
the reason I say this is because all types of fruit contain Fructose with
is a natural sugar that the fruit produces, the problem that we have Post
Op is with Sucrose which is an unhelathy form of sugar. Could it be that
the baked chicken has some typ e of marinade with oil? Just a thought...
hope things get better for you

I agree with the 'Orange theory'. I dumped on applesauce that was natural.
So it was the natural sugars that made me dump. A whole orange would
definitely do it to me.

I doubt it was the fruit, especially if you're eating chicken with it.
When you eat protein with a meal, it slows the absorption of carbs into
your system. Haven't you been eating fruit all along? Why just over the
last few months is this happening? Keep researching and talk to your
doctor. Throughout all of my medical problems since surgery, I've found
that I'm the only one who really cares how I'm feeling. My surgeon is of
the attitude that I just have to wait out the pain. While I don't have a
resolution on my pain yet, I haven't given up the search. Good luck and
God bless!
