Question:
Need help with post-op diet
I have tried several shakes pre-op and many taste OK. But as I have read on these boards your taste buds change completely after surgery and many people complain about not being able to hold down their protein shakes. Also the "samples" now won't help me after surgery, and I want to be prepared for going home and getting my protein in right away after surgery. Has anyone tried the procel protein and UP CAL D as a NEW post-op? I already know that procel does not have alot of protein in each scoop compared to the regular shakes and is very expensive. But I am willing to pay the price if it will work. In the past, I have gagged on the CT scan drink and barium. I am afraid that the somewhat thick protein shakes post-op are going to make me barf. If you have had experience with this procel product your help would be appreciated. Thanks — Joanie J. (posted on June 19, 2002)

I have tried many protein shakes since my surgery on 4/1/02 and the only
one I have been able to tolerate is Pro Cel. I take my on calium tablet
daily. But since my surgery I have been lastose intolerate, so me and milk
dont get alone at all. But I tried Pro Cel and I like it a lot. It doesnt
have a milky taste to me.And to drink it I add it to my Decaf coffee in the
mornings (3 scoops=15 gms protein) I usually drink 2 cups a day, and the
rest of protein I get from my meals.. Try the samples first to experiment.
I just recieved my second shipment yesterday, and with this order I ordered
the sugar-free syrup for my shaved icee. I am very happy with Pro Cel
considering I couldnt stomach the others I have tried..Its worth the money
to me just not to be sick.....ML
