Question:
Has anyone out there gotten pregnant after having ablation surgery on uterus?
I think the answer to this is no and even if it's possible, I believe the baby cannot thrive since the lining has been reduced, but I just wanted to check. This surgery is for people with heavy monthly bleeding. There is a balloon inserted via lap surgery into the uterus, blown up and then heated with a laser. Ideally, they burn the lining out of the uterus so there is no more monthly bleeding. It was not 100% effective for me meaning I still have monthly periods but most definitely not like it was prior to this surgery. I know all the research on this but I also know God is still in the business of performing miracles...........Anyone with any hope?????? — Nell C. (posted on June 19, 2002)

Hi, I had this done as well. I was told I had a 3% chance of getting
pregnant and only 5% chance of carring to term. I had to have a
hystromectomy (sp?) less then a month later due to complacations so I don't
really have an answer for you, only what my Dr. told me. They usually will
not do this surgery if you want to have more babies. As you said God is
still preforming miracles so don't give up! Love Andrea

Hi Nell, I had this procedure done about 1 month prior to my WLS (12/00).
It has been truly a wonderful experience. I had fibroid tumors that were
causing me to bleed soooooo heavy and pass enormous clots. I would soak
through 3 of the super maxi pads in about 15 minutes. I would not leave my
house for a couple of days during my cycle, it was that heavy. My surgeon
attempted the balloon ablation, but was not able to complete it because my
fibroids were too large and was not allowing for a complete match-up
against my uterine lining. (BTW-mine was not done lap, but vaginally). I
was given a hormone shot ($1500.00-thankful for insurance!)before I left
the hospital and went back in for another ablation procedure known as a
"rollerball". This time it was great!!! My surgeon told me that
you could get pregnant following this procedure, but it would be extremely
dangerous for both the baby and you. My husband had just had a vasectomy
about 3 months before this, so this was ideal. My gyn highly recommends
this if you are married. Since this procedure (18 months ago), my monthly
periods have consisted of a scant amount of spotting when I wipe after
going to the bathroom. In these 18 months, I have not worn a pad or a
tampon--not even a pantiliner!! It has been the second greatest procedure
that I have had done-after WLS of course!!! You don't mention whether you
are currently pregnant or wanting to be, but please consult with your gyn.
