Question:
Serious bicyclists - how do you maintain carb levels w/o dumping or other troubles?

I know we're supposed to keep carbs low after surgery but I am looking forward to getting into long distance bicycling with my wonderful DH but how do you fuel your body to cycle 40+ miles without carb loading? Thanks!    — Nell C. (posted on June 18, 2002)

I too am a cyclist and can't wait until my weight comes down enough to get back on the bike. I too have thought about the carbs. and this is my thinking!! When riding a bike for 40+ miles you burn so many calories and carbs that you should not have worry about it. Just don't eat carbs on your off days. Carb load two days prior to your ride. Maybe this would be a good question for the nutrionist? I have completed two 100 mile centurys and two 50 mile century pre-op. I loved riding and can't wait to get back to it. Have fun and do what ever works for you. Keep me posted.
