Question:
Hospital wont do any more surgergies due to surgery not being financial profitable?
Just found out last nite, that the hospital where our bariatric surgery is affiliated is no longer allowing the bypass surgery due to the surgery not being profitable (they say the HMO's are not reimburseing enough money to make it work), this is effective tomorrow, so many patients who have surgery scheduled in next few weeks have to have their surgery cancelled, do any members know of any options we have to fight the hospitals decision, (i.e. state agency who licences hospital, etc.)? — Rich C. Same thing happened at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac Michigan. The
docs involved just went on to another hospital and two that didn't do it
before now are. Good Luck!

We were just talking about this at support group last night. The same
thing happened to the surgeon that did my surgery. He is limited to one
surgery per week at one hospital and just got the other hospital to agree
to two surgeries per week. My surgeon has a long waiting list of people
just waiting to get into the orientation. At this rate it will be a year
or two before they even get to see him. This would never happen to someone
who needed heart or any other type of necessary surgery!!!!

Many hospitals here in florida have successful WLS facilities. The
hospitals and docs that are having trouble need to contact and visit these
places. Once when I was at my surgeon's office, there was a group of
surgeons touring the office and hospital to learn how they do it. Fay
