Question:
My Ultra Sound showed only one Kidney
Does anyone know if having only one Kidney could cause my surgery to be cancelled. My surgery is in 21 days and I just found out through the Ultra Sound and Pre Opt Testing. Thanks, Lisa — lisab07 (posted on May 17, 2002)

Hi Lisa:
Having worked in an OR for years, I know we did surgery on
people with one kidney. It is something that anesthesia
has to work with more than the surgeon in regards to fluid
and electrolyte balance and making sure that there is no
fluid overload during surgery. This can be managed successfully
by an experienced Anesthesiologist/Nurse Anesthetist...
It is good they found out pre-op so that they can pay special
attention to these things intra-operatively.
Best wishes to you...

same time. she had NO kidneys! her sister, who is a friend of mine, donated
the kidney. at 3 weeks postop, she is doing fine.
