Question:
Told I can return to work after 10 days, is that enough time?

My doctor stated that I will need to take 10 days off from work after surgery, will that be enough? I have read that some people were not able to return for 2-3 weeks. I am getting an open RNY with a bikini line incision and a panni at the same time.    — Michell C. (posted on April 7, 2002)

WOW!! A bikini line incision....I am jelouse (hehe). I went back to work after 14 days. I still had to rest often but it can be done. I manage a large retail store, so there is alot of walking around involved. But if you have no problem from the surgery I dont see why you couldnt go back in 10.

Perhaps he meant 10 work days, thus- 2 weeks. Not sure, maybe you should call his office and clarify. Plus, even if he did say 10 days...that is probably the minimum. I would imagine he would want you out of work for as long as you could take- within reason. I would call just to be sure.

I had planned on going back at 2 weeks but it took my longer to feel strong enough so I went back at 3 weeks but did half days for the first week back. At one 2 week checkup the Dr asked me when I wanted to go back I could have taken 6 weeks off if I wanted to.

Don't push yourself!!! If you have the time to take then take it!!! I had planned to be off for six weeks and one week after coming home from the hospital I ended up going back in because of my pancreas. I was in the hospital another week. I am 10 weeks post-op and have no intention on going back to work until the middle of May. I am still very weak and need the time to heal and adjust. Let your body and Dr. tell you when to return. Take care and I pray for fast healing for you. :~)

I think you need to ask again; with an OPEN RNY you'll be in the hospital for at least 5 days! so that would only leave '5' days to recoop.. NO WAY. With a LAP RNY Ive had friends go back after 2 weeks (so aka 14 days) ; even with a normal 'c section' normal 'time off' is 6 weeks. I like the idea of the biiini line incision; never heard of this done before.... good luck.

I had my open RNY on a Thurday, took the next week off and went back to work the following Monday. Work days missed was 7. Of course, I have a desk job where I am considered the manager. I was able to delegate alot and went home 2 hours early the first 2 days. I was extremely tired when I got home and went straight to bed for at least the first two weeks back, but I am the kind of person who could never stay at home longer than I did, it was already driving me crazy. LOL.
