I was suppose to have surgery on feb 19th but since I had an abnormal ekg the surgery was postponed until I could see a cardiologist and have a stress test. I passed that with flying colors then. They said I needed to have a cbc blood test got that then they asked for me to be tested for hepatitis took that test everything is fine now they are saying that I need to see a urologist. so hopefully after I see this doctor and get cleared for surgery I will actually have surgery or either switch doctor's because I can't take to much more of this.

Thanks for asking this question and allowing me to vent a bit...The absolutely worthess psychiatrist I went to was (is)TRYING to give me grief about writing a clearance letter because she was going thru my med records and my last dr. consultation (in Sept.) mentioned I was depressed and recommended therapy. Duh. It was after 9/11 (the whole world was depressed!) and I had just left a great career as a hotel Concierge and was having trouble finding another position due to the hiring freeze at all hotels...Anyway, the first thing this joke of a psych said when I sat down is "Why are you here" (how insulting! check your appt. records before hand!) then she spend 1/2 hr griping about how stupid it was to need psych clearance for this, and then she referred to a choice I had made in my life as "weird"... but the topper is that she hadn't even reviewed my med. records until a week and a half after my appt. (AFTER I made a follow up call to check on my clearance letter - clearly she hadn't done anything!!!). Upon discovering my depression, she tries to get all medical "Well we should do some pre-op counseling, etc. etc." Needless to say, after juggling my schedule, lying to my job about why I am having surgery, jumping thru a million other hoops for ins. approval, etc. NO WAY AM I GOING TO ALLOW THIS STUPID WOMAN TO CREATE A PROBLEM FOR ME. So she promised to write the letter stating that although I am mentally healthy enough to go thru WLS, I will definitely need counseling afterwards. Okay, fine. But (and I'm almost done, I promise) you know, after begging her to do it last week, I still don't think she's done it (my surgery is scheduled for 4/4 and I NEED her letter for ins. approval). Needless to say, I am ready to GO OFF. So I'll be in Florida next week, bugging her across state lines. I swear this whole testing/ins. approval thing is a pain in the butt and a real study in perseverence... I sure hope WLS is worth it. Best of luck to you...Rebecca Mayhew

People do have their surgery postponed or cancelled because of abnormal tests, but it would help to know exactly which test you had that was abnormal.

I had my surgery cancelled twice because of a high white blood cell count. My records showed it was in the upper normal range a few months back, so i had to go thru a million tests to figure what the cause of the elevation was. After about 2 months they couldnt find anything wrong. They said that obesity itself can cause WBC elevation. So i was finally cleared for my surgery..which is tomorrow morning!
