Question:
Yuck!!! I just tried my first TOFO HOTDOG!
I microwave a tofo hotdog and couldn't eat it. It tasted like %^^%$##. There's got to be someone out there who knows how to dress them up to eat? I am in great need to get my protein in.Qestion# 2, My doctor put me on Viokase. I take 2 to 4 every time I eat protein. He says I will absorb alot more protien from my foods. Anyone else taking this medication? any side effects? — Laura G. (posted on February 16, 2002)

If it's nasty, why eat it??? =) Hebrew National makes a delicious 97% fat
free hot dog. It's only 50 calories, 1.5 fat grams and 6 grams of protein.
They taste just like real hotdogs.. They are real hotdogs! I take the
reduced fat Grands biscuits and wrap it around it, to make a big pig in a
blanket. The whole things a mere 200 calories. Check it out. (BTW, the
hot dogs were on sale today for $1.99 so I bought 5 packages!) Sorry I
know nothing about the later question though it sounds interesting.

I HAVE NOT TRIED THE TOFU H0T DOGS BUT HAVE TRIED TOFU SMOOTHIES AND IT
REMINDED ME OF CURDLED MILK, SO UP IT CAME. I HAVE, HOWEVER TRIED
MORNINGSTAR ORGANIC FOODS. THE HOT DOGS, CORN DOGS, HAMBURGER, CHICKEN
PATTIES AND THE SAUSAGE LINKS TASTE EXACTLY AS WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO
TASTE LIKE. I WAS REALLY SURPRISED. TRY THEM AND SEE. DON'T BUY A BUNCH
UNTIL YOU TRY, BUT WHEN I FIND THEM ON SALE, I STOCK UP. WHAT IS THE
MEDICATION YOU ARE TAKING AND FOR WHAT?

Have you tried protein supplements? There are hundreds of choices
available. Yes, I used Viokase while in protein deficiency. It fixed that
and added 14 # at the time. Whatever it touches, it digests. NOW. It also
can irritate the pouch and bowel, causing burning diarrhea, OR irritate the
throat & esophagus. It's a good prescription medicastion to use for
someone who has lost WAY too much weight or someone who is in protein
deficiency, but it's rather strong to use to just "get extra
protein", when the supplements can deliver it with fewer side effects.
Or at least that's how I view it.

There aint NOTHING that is going to fix that issue!!! I suggest dressing
the lining of your garbage can.. go buy the fat free ones and enjoy your
hot dog. At 8 weeks my doctor instructed me to cut the carbs and highly
increase my protein. He wanted me to do this by cutting all
bread/rice/pasta and replacing them with more protein.. I do NOT take any
protein drink supplement. On a rare occasion I eat about 1/2 protein bar
for the feeling of eating something sweet... even though the carbs are only
2 grams. I average 75 or more protein a day... I get the protein through
egg beaters which make a great omelet, fish, chicken, seafood, jerky, ham,
beef, wild game... cottage cheese.. My doc does not want his patients
eating special or diet foods as he feels this is a sure way to fail as this
is what most over weight people have eaten all their lives... and that
failed. I do eat about one fruit a day.... and this is where I get my
carbs...on occasion I do have a bread serving or rice or pasta... Now...if
you are a vegitarian... ignore everything I just said and I wish you luck..
I guess I too would have to develop a taste for tofu...

I am a pre-op non-vegetarian, and I find the Morningstar Farms products to
be excellent. My brother and sister-in-law (vegetarian) tried the sausage
and had to dig the box out of the garbage to make sure it was not real
sausage! My boyfriend's sister loves the buffalo "chicken"
nuggets. They're a little spicy but really good. I'm looking forward to
trying new soy things. There is an excellent vegetarian chinese restaurant
by my house, and I've eaten at one in NYC. My motto is to be adventurous,
you never know what you'll like. :)

Hi! Are you doing tofu because you want to be a veg.? If so I am sorry I
cannot help you. I personnally LOVE Wampler Chicken franks. They are No
sugar, ZERO Carbs and no fillers. One Frank has 7g of protein and 120
calories. They are really good popped in the microwave, pan fried or
cooked on the stove in water, but Don't do so well on the BBQ
grill....Yummmmmmmmm!
