Question:
Can ppl over 60 have this surgery?

I am scheduled to have the open rny Feb 27th, 2002. My mother is interested in having surgery also and is 61.. will be 62 in Aug. Is it possible for her to have the surgery?    — Gail S. (posted on February 15, 2002)

There are a lot of AMOS members who are over 60 and have had this surgery and I am sure you will hear from them. Some surgeons do have age limitations, but most do accept patients in their 6o's. Tell your Mom to go for it and good luck.

I am 67 and scheduled for open RNY on February 21st -- next Thursday. Tell your mom to go for it! (Seriously, have your mom research it and see if it is right for her.) There are lots of us well-over-60 folks at various stages of the process and I'm sure you'll hear from some of us. Nina in Maine

I am 60 yrs old and had an open RNY on November 12, 2001. Down 70 pounds and never felt better. Surgery was uneventful.
