Question:
Simple, Easy, Effective, Hassel-Free?

Alright, here goes nothing.... I'm 2 months post op. My husband and I are dealing with a sexual issue. We knew that birth control was very important after surgery. I've heard and seen things that say estrogen based birth controls don't work after WLS because of hormone imbalances. Besides a condom, is there anything else that you guys have found to be successful, safe, and hassle-free????? You may want to consider a diaghram.

Depo shot, UID, Norplant (if that is still being done). There is also the spong (may be a hassle though) like the other poster suggested, a diaphram. Go to your gyno and ask what else would be effective after RNY. Good luck and be careful;)

Oops, I meant IUD.

I found the diaphragm to be a huge hassle... can't believe anyone else LIKES that method!! LOL Anyway, I really like my copper-T IUD. No hormones, and I don't have to take YET ANOTHER pill. :-p Might be a good option for you, too.

A diaphram is an out of the question if you are in your weight loss phase. They need to be refitted with every 10 pound weight gain or loss... gee.. you'd be getting a new every couple of weeks there for a while! LOL

I agree with Julia...I LOVED my IUD, and I used 3 different kinds. The last one I had (before my tubal ligation) was in me for 10 years...and not a single problem. I was never able to take the pill and I hated the diaphram. The IUD is hassle free, and allows for spontenaity. All you have to do is check for the "string" once a month (which I only did about once a year).

Keep in mind that the patch has not been proven to be very effective in women that are over 200 pounds.
