Question:
What's the MINIMUM amount of calories that should be burned daily?

I do thirty minutes of cardio a day in addition to weight training. How many calories should I be burning a day to make sure that I continue weightloss? I average about 250 calories burned on the treadmill and ski machine. Thank you.    — vbenedict0208 (posted on January 30, 2002)

Gosh, you're doing great! I normally do about 20-25 minutes on the stationary bike (burning about 150 calories) and then swim for a half-hour (burning about 150 calories). I do this four times per week. I have lost 161 lbs. and feel great. I think your current routine is definitely adequate to continue burning fat. Be careful to not overdo it and change out your exercise routine so you shock your body every once in a while. Good luck!

There's a great website that let's you track all this and gives you reports of calories burned compared to calories consumed. I've found it very helpful. It's http://www.fitday.com . I also do cardio, but on the elliptical trainer. I do thirty minutes and burn 400 calories. My trainer says it's the best and most effective cardio machine they have, and it's also no impact! YAY! Hope this helps, it sounds like your doing wonderful!

I wanted to let everyone know that most of the time the exersise machines do not accuratly give calories unless you type in your age and weight. I also use fitday.com which gives you a more accurate calorie count for the time you exersise. Today I did 30 min on bike at 15.6 MPH and the machine said I burned 170 calories fit day said I burned more than 250 cals. Good luck with everything and keep up the good work.
