Question:
Has anyone out there gone from morbidly obese to superfit?

I just started working out with a personal trainer. I've always dreamed of being a professional fitness competitor. Have any of you out there been able to achieve this goal? I'm worried about losing enough body fat to compete and if my skin will tighten enough. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you!    — vbenedict0208 (posted on January 30, 2002)

I still have weight to lose, so I'm not a good example, but I have a friend who went from 300 lbs. to 150 lbs. of pure muscle and became a body builder. It was pretty amazing stuff. She did not have the gastric bypass. I think it's definitely possible for you. Good luck!

I am 5'1" and started at 280 pounds. I am now 140, size 8-10 and have a resting heart rate of 52 (which I am told is the resting heartrate of a fit person). I jog, play soccer, referee soccer, rollerblade, play golf, tennis, ski, bike- you name it. I am training for a marathon, weightlift, and generally love exercise. By the way- I am 42 years old, have been on TV and the newspaper for my soccer playing, and am having a ton of fun reliving the childhood I should have had had I not been MO the first time around. If I can do it- anybody can!!! My advice- don't overdo it or you can get discouraged. One day at a time and build up slowly. Also, for me, it helps to make it fun by doing different things to avoid boredom. Good Luck!!

Oh yes! They are not ME, of course, but on the Graduate-OSSG list, several have become personal trainers post-op.
