Question:
Anyone else notice a difference with there periods since having surgery?
I was wondering if anyone else out there is suffering from painful periods now. Every time I get my period...I am getting terrible cramps, and the bleeding is so much heavier than before surgery. Has anyone else noticed a difference? — [Anonymous] (posted on January 23, 2002)

CHANGES IN MY PERIOD: I have noticed a couple things.... I am currently on
my second period since surgery. The first one post op was 3 weeks late...
but when it came it was VERY heavy!!!! I also noticed that the cramps are
much worse.... and I was already on narcotics then for painful cramps.
This second one is the same way!!! Very heavy and painful... at least I
dont feel like eating!!!! I always look on the bright side!!!! LOL Do a
search of topic under the questions already asked regarding periods.. I
think you will find a lot of information. Good luck to you!

Before surgery my periods were every 28 days, bad cramps, and normal flow.
After surgery they are every three weeks, no cramps, and heavy flow.

YES!! I had PCOS and since my surgery I have been able to have my period
without the aid of my Diabetic meds but the periods are AWFUL!! A week
before I have terrible back pain and breast tenderness. The week of my
period ....HEAVY AND PAINFUL and the cravings are rough too. I am so glad
to know I am not the only one out there with same trouble ;o)

Before surgery (140 pounds ago!) I never had regular periods.
Since about 6 months after surgery and for the last 18 months,
I have been like clockwork. They have been heavier, and crampier.
Exercise does help. When I have been walking during PMS
and through the firsy few days, I have noticed my PMS and
cramps aren't as bad. When I am inactive, as I was this month,
they seem to be worse. Good Luck!

I'm so glad you wrote this question. I currenly started my fourth period
post surgery and was so worried because my cramps (nonexistent preop) were
bad and I have a heavy flow. I'm glad to know it has happened to others.

I never had periods (well a couple brought on by meds during infertility
treatments to get pregnant) because of a disease called Polycystic Ovarian
Syndrome....one month post-op and this girl got her first period. I was
shocked....and it was bad. Bad cramping, heavy bleeding..the worst. I
immediately called my dr. and got on birth control pills and since then I
have a period every month and they aren't too bad. Actually had to go in
yesturday and change my pills because my 80 pound weight loss has changed
my hormone levels and the pills I had weren't strong enough any more, I was
having break through bleeding. Hope this helps.
