Question:
Micropouch Procedure

In exploring various aspects of the different types of gastric bypass surgeries, has anyone had the micropouch surgery and if so what was the outcome of weightloss? Any pros or cons?    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 22, 2002)

I have had the micropouch and I would reccommed it to anyone. My blood work, my health, and weight loss are beyond fantastic. This is a quote from the page of the doctors who do the "micropouch"...............)www.micropouch.com ...................................................................................Q. Is the Sapala-Wood MicropouchTM gastric bypass operation endorsed by the National Institutes of Health? A. The National Institutes of Health have endorsed the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass as an effective way to treat morbid obesity over a long period of time. The Sapala-Wood MicropouchTM operations is a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass with a very small pouch. It resists stretching, and it is not likely to cause ulcers and acid reflux. Feel free to email me if you have any questions concerning the micropouch. I'd be glad to chat with you.

I have noticed that every question about the micro pouch has had an anonymous poster on it slamming it. They always have their facts twisted too. Just an observation, but perhaps this person is upset with their procedure, or is jealous of the fact they didn't have the micropouch. I am considering traveling to have this operation. I have found nothing but positive findings in my research. The anonymous poster has helped me too, all the slamming has caused me to try and verify it, and I can't. Maybe this person is that "Sue Witmark" who is against any kind of weight loss surgery and makes her rounds visiting sites like ours to slam the procedures? We are all in this together, and we all have had the surgery that is right for us on an individual basis. I have seen no one slamming the anonymous' Route en Y. Let's get out facts straight, and be kind adults. Just an observation.

Maybe they are just having a b-day. Forgive them and consider their reasons. I just go on. It does seem they've been following me around though. I have a new friend! LOL God bless all.. what ever choice for yourself that you made or make.

I am scheduled for the micropouch surgery on 3/11/02. I have absolutely positively NO FEAR in going with this procedure. I feel totally comfortable with the surgery and my surgeon (Dr Sapala) My insurance UHC-PPO wouldn't approve something that wasn't tested and experimental.. When I went to the seminar at the Hilton in Novi, Michigan there were at least 12 patients from Dr Sapala and Dr Wood there who HAD THE SURGERY done.. Not one was asked to attend and they had nothing (I mean nothing) but praise for this procedure in WLS.. My husband was very skeptical when we went to the first seminar for RNY with the W*I*S*H foundation and Dr. Jeffrey Rosen was the surgeon giving the seminar... He wasn't anymore comfortable with the web postings but when we went to Hilti for the seminar (I originally went to learn more on the Adjustable Gastric Band)but liked the concept of the micropouch (after seeing the band I decided against it) and my husbands mind was more settled with Dr Wood.. Once we went to go see Dr Sapala for a one on one appointment my husband (and I) are totally at ease with what is about to happen to my life. I know Tony at Rite Weigh with Dr Cahill most defiantly tried to talk me out of the micropouch but..that made me want to research the procedure even more.. I am most comfortable with my decision.. and feel I will be at 80 (which is 48 years away) and I know with the surgery and my hard work I will see 80! So, before you say nay on micropouch...check their web page and make sure you go to a seminar.. then go to another seminar on the other WLS procedures and make an INFORMED decision.. Belinda
