Question:
I have read about people using meat tenderizer, when someting seems like its stuck.
Hoe does it work, and how do you use it? — Cindee A. (posted on January 13, 2002)

I had an intestinal blockage with popcorn. The doctor told me to take 1/2
teaspoon of tenderizer and mix it with some water (maybe 8 oz). Drink up.
(oh its nasty). I had to stay on liquids the rest of the day and I was
fine by morning. By the way, when I had this problem, I couldn't keep
anything down at all. Anything I ate came right back up. Once I vomitted,
all the craps went away. If you have a fever of something, you should
really contact your doctor.

I was told to buy papaya enzymes at a vitamin store and take that when
something is stuck.

I am 5 weeks postop and have had something get stuck only once. It was a
small piece of canned peach. My gosh, was that uncomfortable! Anyway, I
drank a bit of hot tea and that washed it away. Sounds like a more pleasing
solution than drinking meat tenderizer. Although that may very well do a
better job on a more dense piece of food such as meat.

I was told by my physician after getting a piece of food stuck, never to
use tenderizer, because you are liable to aspirate(inhale into the lungs)
and then you would be in serious trouble since the tenderizer begins to
disolve the lung tissue.
