Question:
Can someone define these for me please?
I have read alot of comments about distal or proximal procedures but can't find out what the definition of them is. Can anyone tell me? — Daphne S. (posted on December 5, 2001)

Hi Daphne, Distal and Proximal referrs to the amount of intestine that is
bypassed in WLS. I am not exactly sure where they draw the line between the
two. I know that mine is proximal- smaller amount of intestine bypassed.

This is the difference between distal and proximal for WLS... DISTAL -
Refers to amount of intestine bypassed; normally more than 150-200 cm and
PROXIMAL - Refers to amount of intestine bypassed; normally 100 cm or less.
Hope this give you the answer you were looking for... :)
