Question:
How long before surgery should I stop taking Premarin?
I understand that I should go off Premarin (Hormone Replacement Therapy) before surgery as a precaution to avoid developing blood clots. Anybody know anything about this? — Linda W. (posted on November 23, 2001)

I didn't have to stop taking Premarin before my surgery. The blood clot
risk was mentioned, but BTC didn't think I needed to stop it (they put you
on blood thinners prior to surgery). I took it up to surgery and have been
on it ever since. I can give up part of my stomach, but not my Premarin!

I took my premarin up to the night before surgery and then started back
taking it as soon as I passed my leak test,I also take an antidepressant
and did the same. I have not had any problems.Good luck on your surgery

I took my premarin every day, up to surgery, and including the day after
surgery and since then. No problems.

I take Estradiol, a natural hormone replacement. Prior to surgery my Dr.
ordered a patch for me to wear. I put this on the day before surgury and it
was good for a week, I resumed my oral med after that time. I had
"hot flashes"from the surgery, I am glad that I did not stop my
HRT. good luck, Kathy

My surgeon requests his patients stop premarin 3 weeks
prior to surgery. I did get some hot flashes but it was
not a problem to me.
