Question:
I have 2 questions
When I had my 2 C-sec. my body went into shock. The nurses said this was very common with birth. I shook and trembled for nearly 1 hour, my neck was very sore from shaking. They even put warm blankets on me me but I was still shaking. Did any of you experience this w/ WLS? #2. I also had hunks of hair falling out for about 2-3 weeks,( after C-sec) but then it stopped. I was never bald or anything. Has there been any research about WHAT exactly causes the hair loss, anastesia/lack of protein/ or both. Thanks — Cindee A. (posted on November 17, 2001)

I gave birth to both my sons vaginally, and both times I went into shock.
My teeth chattered and I literally shook so hard I was afraid to hold them.
I was covered in heated blankets. I didn't hurt myself, like you did your
neck, but it was a weird experience. I didn't have anything like it after
wls. I had no drugs for either birth, so the shivering shaking shock wasn't
a reaction to any drugs or anesthesia.
good luck

Cindee, I have not had my WLS yet, but I have had another surgery
(non-pregnancy related). When I came too after the surgery, I did not
actually get the shakes so to speak, but I was very cold and they used
heated blankets on me in the recovery room. I also experienced hair loss
due the anesthesia.

I had this after my (vaginal delivery) babies, too. That's a LOT of work
there, you know? Not with any of my surgeries, though. No question that
the anesthesia sorta shocks your hair right down to the roots. Of course,
the protein has a bearing on how much, how long, and all that. But I was
VERY well proteined before & after my revision, only had 12# to lose
and STILL had hair loss. Just not as severe as the original WLS when I was
not getting enough protein & had 150 # to lose.

I had this twice before, once when I nearly died from blood loss from
divertelocsis, and once from knee surgery. I mentioned it as a concern pre
op, and my records were checked. They felt it was related to low blood
oxygen levels, from my sleep apnea. They took great care after surgery
monitoring me and I am VERY glad to report I felt fine and didnt get the
shakes. They are terrible and frightening. My whole gurney and all the
attached equiptement shook and rattled when it occured, I was certain the
first time I was dying. If this has been a problem in the past I would
definetely mention it to your surgeon before surgery.

I also had 2 c-sections and shook for a while after. The nurse told me it
was a side effect from the medication. I also lost hair. I believe that
is caused by the bodies reduction of vitamin absorption and hormonal
levels.
