Question:
POTTASIUM AND PROTIEN ANY FOODS HIGH IN BOTH
I AM ABOUT TO HAVE A SILASTIC BAND AND I HAVE A GENETIC HEART CONDITION THAT I AM ON BETABLOCKERS FOR BUT I SUFFER A ARRYTHMIA THAT IS STABALISED BY MY MEDICATION . AFTER THE SURGEY I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY CARDIOLIGIST THAT MY POTTASIUM WILL HAVE TO BE MONITORED EVERY 3-4 DAYS IN THE BEGIINING FOR A FEW MONTHS AND I WILL HAVE TO EAT HIGH POTASSIUM FOOD EASIER SAID THAN DONE AS I AM SUPPOSED TO EAT HIGH PROTIEN. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO KEEP ON TOP OF BOTH NUTRIENTS WHEN YOU CAN ONLY EAT SMALL AMOUNTS. IS THERE ANY FOODS THAT HAVE BOTH HIGH PROTIEN AND POTASIUM IN THEM. I KNOW BANNANAS ARE HIGH IN POTTASIUM BUT AM SURE THEY ARE A CARBOHYDRATE. APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT.. — [Anonymous] (posted on November 11, 2001)

Ask your doc how many mg (elemental) he would like you to supplement.
Potassium can be taken in pills, no sugar, no calories, no pouch
stretching. Protein is also available in supplement form, liquid, no sugar,
very low calories. No reason that one should be exclusive of the other.
Even non-RNY use major elements in supplemental form. It can be very
self-defeating to have to jam in certain volumes of foods to try to get
specific elements. If you do it supplementally, there is no conflict with
your wt loss OR health.
