Are there any advantages/disadvantages

Cindee, I don't understand your question. A higher BMI just means that for
a certain height, you weight that much more.... BMI is just a formula for
the ratio of weight to height....

I'm not completely sure about the question either...but I can try to
answer. Usually, the higher the BMI, the higher risk you are. That goes
for just about anything...heart disease, diabetes and surgery. The more
weight you carry, the more stress you have on your body. I guess that
might be what you are talking about as far as disadvantages. An advantage
to having a lower BMI would be that some surgeons are more apt/able to do
surgery laproscopically if your BMI is a bit lower. Some of the people
with higher BMI's drop the weight quite quickly, which can be encouraging.
On the other hand, some surgeons say that the higher the bmi...the lower
the % of body weight you will lose in the end. This is just what I have
seen spoken of here on the site. I'm not an expert. I hope that helped ;)

faster than lower end BMI's I'm wondering how true that is.Are there any
other things

I understand what you are asking, because I was thinking the same thing
before, I heard that the more you weigh, for example some one who weighs
480 lb vs. someone who weighs 280 lbs and have surgery on the same day..
who will drop more weight first, I was told the larger of the 2 will loose
weight first, I think Its because its a bigger adjustment on the intake ..
but I know what your asking and I have heard it from many people in the
chat rooms that the bigger you are prior to surgery the more you will loose
..but you will hit a plateu .. and that plateu could be at 280 .. and the
smallers could be at 170 .. this is why I was told "dont gain weight
before surgery.. it will be slower in the end the more you weigh" if
this is true or just one persons personal experiances I am not sure but I
can say I have gained 15+ lbs the past 2 months because I through out my
diet pills..
