43999 is a code for "unlisted procedure, stomach"....it
certainly
isn't the code for lap rny. I'm a certified coder and there is
no code specifically for lap gastric restrictive rny....depending
on the operative report, the code would be 43846 or 43847. I;ve
seen other folks asking about cpt codes. Why?????? only the doc
should provide cpt codes....no insurer would ever ask the patient for
them anyway. I don't get it........

Thanks for clearing that up anonymous. Some people want the CPT code so
that they can be specific with their insurance company as to whether or not
that procedure is covered. Believe it or not, the materials I received
from my hospital asked that I call my insurance company and specifically
request whether the lap rny was covered -- by using the 43999 procedure
code. Capice?

x(****xxahhhhhhhh!!!!!! Kimberly L., that sound you hear is me
screaming. Any hospital should know better.....cpt codes that end
in "99" are always "unlisted codes" that insurers
either won't make
payment on or they request reams and reams of clinical documentation.
If they routinely ask patients to inquire about coverage for 43999...
they are setting those people up for denials.

I hear your screams all the way here in Cleveland! Anyway, Cleveland
Clinic (supposedly world renowned) has this very code on their info sheet.
I don't know about their history of denials etc. All I know is they
approved me. :-)
