Question:
I'm 46 the Dr. tell me I will lose slower. I'm losing 3-4 lbs. per week .
Has anyone about my age had the Dr. tell you the same thing? — [Anonymous] (posted on October 11, 2001)

I'm 46, (47 next month). I had my OpenVBG four months ago
today (06/11) and have lost 90lbs. My Dr. didn't have any definitive
numbers because everyone is different - there have been some weeks I've
lost 10lbs and others when I lost 1/4 of a pound. But my 90lb loss averages
out to a little over 5lbs a week.

Hello, Im almost 42 and have lost 79 pounds in 4 months. I was told I
would lose slower since I started out with a lower BMI of 41. My BMI is
now 27 and weigh 158 and I'm in a size 12 petite. I am very thrilled with
my progress so far. Good luck with your progress. Ciao~~~~

I do wish docs wouldn't set people up to feel like failures.
They really can't predict how fast or slowly the weight will
come off. Nor can they predict how much weight will come off.
3-4 pounds a week is terrific. It's been my expereince that us
"slow losers" usually stay healthier than those who lose weight
very rapidly.

That doesn't sound like a bad loss at all! My surgeon told us that if we
average 2-4 lbs/week for the first few months we are doing well. Some may
do more than that, some may do less, and sometimes there are weeks we don't
lose at all.....but when I averaged my loss over the weeks post it all came
to the number he told me. I say just let your own body tell you what it
wants and don't go by what people tell you is "Normal". I had
open vbg and was considered a relative "lightweight". As a
result I was told I would lose slower...well, I lost 125 lbs and got to
goal in 10 months!!!! Just relax and do what you are doing because it
sounds like you are doing absolutely fantastic! HUGS
